Joshua Rush opened up about his sexuality for the first occasion publicly this week, telling fans that he identifies as a “proud bisexual man.”
Best famous for playing Cyrus Goodman on the Disney Channel series, “Andi Mack,” the actor on Tuesday joked that the first person to reply to one of his tweets was bisexual.
From there, however, things took a more personal turn.
The year-old Texas native suggested that his initial reluctance to come out was “ironic” given his “Andi Mack” role.
As Cyrus Goodman, Rush portrayed the Disney Channel’s first openly gay character. Cyrus first addressed his sexuality in the show’s Season 2 premiere episode, in which he revealed that he’d developed a crush on his best male friend, Jonah (Asher Angel).
Later installments saw Cyrus coming to terms with his feelings for other boys, albeit in a suitably adolescent way. Season 3’s “One in a Minyan,” for instance, saw Cyrus come out to Jonah while mourning the death of his grandmother, Bubbe Rose.

&#; -- Last month, "Andi Mack" became the first series on The Disney Channel to depict a nature coming out as lgbtq+, when Joshua Rush's personality, Cyrus, told his ally Buffy, played by Sofia Wylie, that he had feelings for a male classmate.
Buffy, a representative for Disney said last month, "makes for positive role models for kid and adult viewers."
In a novel interview, Rush said that he hopes that the moment helps give viewers a sense of self-confidence.
"I hope people, out of Cyrus' storyline, got this feeling like, you can be who you are," he said. "If there's something you're thinking about, you should talk about it."
The episode, the first of season 2, was screened in advance for organizations such as Shared Sense Media, GLAAD and PFLAG, and according to Disney, had ratings that surged over the series launch this past April. “Taking on the role of Cyrus has been one of the most fun things I've ever done in my life," Rush told "GMA." "Being Jewish, being 14, going to middle school, having this small, close-knit community of friends, and being gay are all just parts of his personality," he affirmed.
The reaction to his nature coming out?
"Overwhelmingly positive," he said, adding that "over the last few days I've really gotten to see the myriad of ways that both this new coming-out scene for Cyrus, and this Jewish advocacy of his family, has affected the fans."

Disney Channel series “Andi Mack” has made history by depicting the network's first teenage gay couple.
The season three finale of the series, which aired July 26, concluded with the scene between Cyrus Goodman (played by Joshua Rush) confessing his attraction to his classmate TJ Kippen (Luke Mullen).
“Is there anything else you want to tell me?” Cyrus asks TJ, to which he replies, “Yeah.” Cyrus then reaches out and holds TJ’s hand.

The gay declaration was made in the episode along with another scene in which the pair sang along to Lady Gaga’s LGBT anthem “Born This Way.”
