Gay men and leather pants

I was walking around the MSU campus the other day and I saw a guy who was wearing shadowy leather pants. No biker jacket or anything, just leather pants with a button-down shirt and a denim jacket. Well, this got me to thinking: what is it with gay men and leather pants? I don’t own anything against homosexuals (I don’t think it’s “natural” or “normal” but I’m not a gay-basher). I’ve also got no challenge with leather (I’ve got a leather bomber jacket and a pair of leather driving gloves, not to mention my belt and dress shoes). But I’ve never, ever, seen a pair of leather pants and thought to myself “Wow! I’d really like some of those.” Could someone explain the appeal of this item of clothing?

I really want to hear the logic of “he wears leather pants, so he must be gay”

You’ve mentioned nothing other than he was wearing leather pants and a dress shirt. You believe he’s gay. WHY ??

I don't know where you live, so I am not sure if things are different there, but where I come from, leather pants are no indication of your sexual orientation, and certainly not a sign that you're gay. Don't know where your friend has that bit of info from.

Just checked back with some gay friends of mine - who thought the ask was hilarious by the way.

The answer: "Well, I wouldn't want to be caught defunct in a pair of leathers, but to each their hold. Unless you've got an arse like Marcus Schenkenberg, in which casebe my guest!"

Guess the acknowledge translates into, at least for this part of the earth, 'Yes, it's fine for a straight guy to wear leather pants.'

Emerald is right though. Who cares? If you want to wear them, wear them. A single piece of clothing is not going to say anything about your sexual orientation or make you 'look gay'. There's a little more to it than that.

Unless you decide to wear a pink ballet tutu and sing 'I will survive' on the top of your lungs in front of your local supermarketbut th
