About Us
The Pride Center (formerly the LGBTQ+ Resource Center) at Virginia Tech was opened on August 15, as a manage result of the advocacy and support of many past and present LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff. Today the Pride Center is first and foremost a queer and trans community center that offers a variety of annual programs which explore the identities and experiences of Diverse individuals and creates opportunities for those searching for community.
The Celebration Center also offers various educational resources for non-LGBTQ+ folks including but not limited to our VirTual Safe Zone training program, which provides participants with the opportunity to explore their possess experiences through the lens of queer and trans oppression and liberatory practices.

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia officials contain agreed not to fully enforce a law banning conversion therapy for minors as part of an agreement with a faith-based conservative group that sued over the statute, authorities said earlier this week.
The Virginia Department of Health Professions, represented by the state's office of the attorney general, entered into a consent commandment with the Founding Freedoms Law Center last month, saying officials will not discipline counselors who engage in chat conversion therapy.
Shaun Kenney, a spokesperson with the Virginia Attorney General's Office, said on Tuesday his office was satisfied with the consensus.
"This court action fixes a constitutional difficulty with the existing law by allowing talk therapy between willing counselors and willing patients, including those struggling with gender dysphoria," Kenney said in a statement. "Talk therapy with voluntary participants was punishable before this judgment was entered. This result—which merely permits chat therap

Today, April 11, , marks one year since the Virginia Values Act — a comprehensive bipartisan commandment that expanded non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people and added all-new protections in employment and public accommodations for all Virginians — was signed into statute by Gov. Ralph Northam.
Virginia continues to be a leader on LGBTQ equality with another historic slate of pro-LGBTQ bills signed into law this year, including the following:
- A bill prohibiting so-called LGBTQ panic defense. The “panic defense,” which is defined by the LGBT Bar as “a legal strategy that asks a jury to find that a victim’s sexual orientation or gender identity/expression is to accuse for a defendant’s aggressive reaction, including murder,” is now banned. Virginia becomes the first state in the South to disallow so-called LGBTQ panic defense.
- A bill modernizing Virginia’s HIV criminalization law. The bill included several updates to
