Athens is the dynamic capital of Greece and the birthplace of democracy itself. To walk its streets is to immerse yourself in ancient history and follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest minds the world has ever known, from Socrates to Aristotle. Nowadays, it may not be the most beautiful of European capitals—in fact, it’s somewhat sprawling and even dirty in places—but it makes up for this with its infectious chaotic power and the sheer number of exciting things to see within its boundaries.
Archaeological ruins are scattered across the city, encircled by a maze of lively markets, exquisite Greek restaurants, traditional tavernas, and souvenir shops peddling Greek mythological figures. Visitors can get shelter from the unrelenting Greek sun in world-class museums, showcasing treasures of ancient civilizations, or in galleries displaying art from across the centuries. Above all this, the impressive Parthenon stands sentinel upon the Acropolis, clear from practically anywhere in the city. As for the Greek peo
LGBT+ Hotspots in Athens
The Athens LGBT+ clubbing scene is concentrated in the area of Gazi. Here you'll detect somewhere for every taste and inclination, from underground trance clubs to bear bars, cruisy saunas or cheeky kingly extravaganzas. The cafés on Gazi square (around the Keramikos metro station) also tend to be gay-friendly and are open all morning long. Not far from Gazi is the neighbourhood of Metaxourgio, which also has some gay-friendly places to consume and drink but less of a clubbing vibe. The hip area of Ano Petralona compensates for its lack of dance clubs with tasteful restaurants and bars, and is also a widespread option for drinks before heading into Gazi to party. The charming Platia Agias Irinis, a square near Monastiraki, is a amazing spot for a relaxed coffee rest or lunch, but is also a favourite haunt for local gay men and women. Hanging out along Archelaou Street in Pangrati can lead to some interesting acquaintances with locals. In the summer, the coves near Vouliagmeni, on the Athens Riviera, called Limanakia welcome nudists of any sexual preference, but they're

Affable. Ageless. Athens.
It's iconic. It's grimy. It's spectacular. It's hectic. It's dazzling. It's unforgettable!
This huge sprawling mess of a city shouldn't impress. It's dirty, rundown, gritty – particularly if you're staying in one of the neighborhoods just outside the center like Psiri or Metaxourgeio (and don't even get us started on Omonia!). But what Athens lacks in wash streets, it sure makes up for in personality. Every day in the Greek capital was love a new adventure for us. It got under our skin so much that we return to it time and moment again for more.
That's right, you better summon the Acro-polis, 'cause the Nomadic Boys are in town!
Athens oozes culture with ancient monuments and earth wonders (hello Parthenon!) whilst at the same hour, it has a vibrant gay scene in the Gazi neighborhood, with a party happening every nighttime of the week. Athenians are night owls, and like the Spanish, they like to eat tardy and then go out partying til
